Quick tyre question odd pair

  1. Hi,

I bought my 916 last October and it has mismatched tyres. Metzeler sportec M3 on the front and Michelin Pilot power 2CT on the rear. Both are nearly new, the Michelin rear slightly more tread. My plan is to buy a 2CT front as its the cheapest option and flog the Metzeler. I just want to check that the metzeler isn't a far superior tyre than the Michelin, and that I shouldn't be buying a metzeler rear? I know tyre choice is a personal thing but any feedback would be appreciated.

  2. Used 2CTs for years and they are the business. Even if the Metzeler's were superior, I can't imagine you'd notice on the road. You could also swap it for a Pilot Power 3, which is a sort of upgraded 2CT.

My 999 currently has a 2CT on the front (until it wears out imminently) and a Power 3 on the back. There is no problem with this mismatch, apparently. The rear will normally wear out faster than the front, so next time around you will have two Power 3s which is ideal.

  3. Its black and its round, providing speed rating is good and you're on the road and the patterns aren't massively different sire it will be perfick winter product

  4. I dont ride in winter anymore, but i want good rubber for the spring /summer. The rosso 2's on my monster evo are great, but i don't want to replace both at the moment.

  5. Well, you either want functional spend not much money or decent rubber :)

    Nothing wrong with a 2ct

  6. Had 2ct's on the 749s, rockin' tyre.

  7. I had them on my 916 (2ct's) I hated them. Tyres are subjective. I only seem to get along with Pirelli's and Dunlops.

  8. Its crazy how different opinions on tyres differ. I cant get my head around dunlops or pirelli's...if we were all the same it would be 'orrible...

    :upyeah:

  9. I would mix brands before I mix tyre sizes away from standard recommended; although I can see some cases where people have had justified reason (899)

  10. I'm still undecided what to do tbh, spoke to rob at racing lines today, he can do me a 2CT front balanced and valve etc for £100 or a metzeler sportec M3 rear for £110. Then told to me to just ride it as it is and see how it feels, then fit a set of Rosso 2's next time.

  11. That's what I'd do.

I wouldn't knowingly fit different tyres to front/rear but I wouldn't worry about riding it that way - back tyres don't last long enough to worry anyway...
