Hi folks, just fitted an HM Quickshifter (race shift) to my 999s and on the first test run I found I kept hitting false neutrals - particularly changing from fourth to fifth. When it worked, it worked bloody brilliantly - I can't believe how quickly the bike took off... Should be great on track. Should I expect seamless changes at road-speeds (part-throttle) or do these things tend to work better at full chat? It may be that I'm not being positive enough with the gear-change as I was also trying to get used to the reverse shift pattern, although I did try giving it a good boot and plenty of throttle, but still had problems, particularly with the 4th to 5th change. I'll email the guys at HM too and see what they suggest, but thought I'd post here and see if any of you guys can shed any light... cheers, Dom
not positive enough not adjusted properly or not the right timing of cut and they work better with more load on the engine ie full throttle
DOH! Checked the bike tonight and it appears the HM lever was catching on the lip of the lower fairing below, which would have impeded it's movement slightly. The throw from 4th to 5th is maybe a smidge longer than the lower gears, making it more noticeable on that particular gear change. Anyhow - I've rotated the lever one notch anti-clockwise so that it clears the fairing. As a result I had to move the pegs up and back to find a workable position for my feet. I've just been out for a quick blast up the A41 (in the dark!) and all seems to be working. Goddamn it's quick!
