Hi Been lurking on this forum for a while...but noticed that there isn't much activity from the UK HM riders... whilst the "other" HM forum, the US based one, seems to be much busier... thought I'd try and promote some more chit and chat in this HyperMotard board... I'm keen to hear about the experiences of UK based riders and the particulars of our machines and dealers and weather... anyway, my name is Dave and i have recently become addicted to a licence threatening drug called 821SP that has been cut with a high level Termi pipe.... I'm 5 weeks in, 2500 miles deep and really can't get enough, the dealers of this Italian narcotic are the nice chaps at Ducati Manchester, those boys are good, I only popped for a look and a sniff, but they offered me deal I couldn't really turn down and the finance offered by Ducati made the decision waaay too easy to sign up... My last bike was a 748 (bought in 1997), which i thought was fast, but the 821SP in race mode is insane... there's really not much thinking time between corners, but thankfully the bike is lot better than me, and sees me through the bend without much ado...only to chuck me at the next curve before I have time to finish patting myself on the back for not crashing it... I'm based up in Cumbria where there are some tight, twisty and bumpy roads which the HM just loves, unfortunately at this time of year there are far to many cars on the road to get a good run, but its only a short blast to the Kendal - Sedbergh road or the NW version of the Mulholland Highway, that is, the road up to Hartside Cafe (an absolute must if you're in the area!). Bike is trouble free, thus far, once I'd figured out the nuances of the machine, like lean (closed loop) fueling whilst cruising, and slightly grabby clutch when cold, its just a blast, I'd even suggest its the perfect motorcycle? Go fast or go slow, the riding position is great, no aching wrists or neck from sports bike crouch, granted its no Goldwing on the motorway but you can still cover miles at a decent pace, seat is comfy enough between fuel stops (100-120 miles), space for luggage (Kriega 20ltr, will be adding more) on the back for weekends away. I do have a couple of tech questions, that I'll save for another thread, but in the mean time, it'd be great to hear from the UK HM riders, the good and the bad about our bikes... Dave
Hi there Dave. I had a look at a Hyper Motard but ended up going for a Triumph Street Triple R instead. Lovely bikes though, look a lot of fun.
Hi PingPing lots of fun...Triple is a good looking thing too, did you test ride the HM? how does it compare?
Not quiet in my gaff....got loads on with mine....I agree with you its pretty quiet generally in the HM area which is why I always open a thread when im doing something (just about to upload some pics in a min....) Ive got quite a few upgrades on the go at the moment....
Mr El Toro - Hello... Mr Sofa - yes, i've been looking at your threads...some good work taking place there - haven't yet started the upgrades...other than the Termi (free and fitted by the dealer - thought that was a good deal?) Upgrades i'm considering at the moment would be some winter prep, radiator/engine protection, cold weather tyres and some general salt and weather protection, I don't want to stick this thing in the garage over the winter, its got to be used! Wondering if anybody has managed to improve the headlight, main beam pattern is pretty bad, really not conducive to covering ground fast at night...
Winter prep??? stainless steel fittings my friend and a lot of recoating of parts and coating of parts that really should have been coated in the first place!!
With regards to the headlight I would suggest a HID kit (ie the proper ones with the ballast) im pretty sure itll be a pain in the arse to fit but it is worth it - did my RSV4 earlier on this year and its brilliant but took 6 hours to work out the fitting.
Hiya Dave I'm down in South Wales. Only got a baby hyper but I love it!!! The only bike I think I'd change it for is a bigger one (but I don't really need it yet)!! The roads around here are made for the hyper. Took it to the TT no bother at all and 6 of my mates and I off to north wales for a few days a week Monday (when kids back to school) so that should be a laugh.
Hello Mr ..er...Hunt 1st weekend with the HM, I drove to south wales (Rhoose) over the brecons, unfortunately I didn't have time to find all the fantastic roads I see the car reviewers on YouTube tearing up. Will be down there again before long, maybe you could give me a list of A and B Roads to hunt down? I did enjoy the road (A483?) from Welshpool to Crossgates though. I stopped at the butty van/bike park as you go up over the brecons, and saw 1 other HM (red and black 796 maybe?) in a sea of 4cyl plastic, Its nice to be on something a little different...
Ha ha yeah my name is Mark really bit boring and I've heard all the jokes so might as well join in! A483 is lovely and if you continue on that from Builth Wells to Llandovery (where there's a biker café) it's great. From Llandovery join the A40 and either continue to camarthen or take the A4069 to bryn amman. and you can either drop down to Swansea, loop back up to Brecon or wherever you want. I've never seen another hyper around (except in iom). (mines white and black)
Dave, welcome I have the same but with a low level SC Project can, air fuel modifier and air filter...great kit. Bike is loads of fun, only added the above plus ducabike frame plugs which are smart.. The bike is a giggle and I have had it a year and put near 5000 miles on it...a lot for me...usually out around wales, loggerheads, Bala way...definitely need a run to your neck of the woods
Here's how I see it 899&1199 mum and dad so talked about often Multi is the older son that suffers a breakdown now and again HP is the other son that's a bit crazy that no one mentions And don't mention uncle diavel he's locked in the cellar!
Hi there Dave... I want to be hyper (821sp) too but can't find a good used one anywhere.... Welcome fella
Mr Markey ... There was a used SP in the manchester shop, standard pipe though, I think they were selling it on behalf of a customer, low miles, less than 500 ?
