for a belt service on my 999 (not S ). Obviously that will include oil and filter etc. Remembering that this is a well respected and long established independent Ducati specialist and we are talking of some obvious uplift because of London prices... Is that reasonable? ( I was expecting around £350) What ever happens I will probably use them as everyone tells me how good they are = just wondered what oter 999istas thought?
Bout right for big sevice if including belts, they're 135, dearest belts ducati sell, add 40 for oil and filter and a days labour.
that is the going rate…..you need to establish exactly what you expect to be done and what the supplier is going to do ….as at the moment it is as long as a piece of string...
You are saying a belt service ? If so then its just belts right? If its just belts then working from memory that is around £70. In which case IMHO that's quite a lot of cash for what is basically 2 hours work - Lets just walk through it - Lower fairings off, Tank and seat off, plugs out, cover off, marking belts, changing belts, adjusting belts, re-assembly. Don't know what the officially ducati times are but being a bit slow and careful it would take me 3 hours top. However you also get that official stamp in the book
Sorry didn't read carefully subtract the oil and filter which I cannot recall but put another 30mins onto my long 3hours
Belts, oil , filter are probably what £170 , So that leaves £330 for labour , Its all very well saying 2 hrs tops for labour but you have to factor in lunch , talking time , distraction time , costs of workshop , blah blah . You're paying for their experience and reputation as well. Either find somewhere cheaper , (that might cost you traveling time and money ) or do your own maintenance , belts are one thing you can do yourself if you take your time and are thorough enough to make sure every step is correct. Filter and oil are basic home mechanics stuff anyway.
Cant say I disagree with those thoughts - Bottom line of all this is that the dealers have various overheads and costs and they need to make a margin - I guess you need to make a balanced decision on costs and travel etc but also how much do you actually want to support your dealership. Otherwise we also end up like the High streets with no shops -
Belts are £135 a set. A "belt service" should include valve clearances, oil and filter, fuel filter, plugs (?) and air filters if they're shot and they're v. pricey for what they are...... You are soon up to £250 in parts and oil alone. Price isn't out of the way tbh.
Thank you for all the wise words everyone - appreciated. As I said the Ducati specialist in question is a well respected, long established and recommended independent. A friend of mine swears by him for his Monster servicing. He is close to a river but in (almost) central London - hence the price I suppose. I will use him and see how it goes - he is so near to me I could almost coast the bike there!
