Hey there fellow riders. Just a thought , I sat here in the pub ignoring the wife and her yappy high pitched pals and came across an R&G shock sock for sale. I thought hey it's not that pretty but would maybe save some pennies in the long run as I ride daily 12months of the year. Does anybody have any experience ? Reliable ? Worthy the money ? Or generally are they just going to make the 999 ugly. Yes I know most already say it is but go with it ! Cheers Andy , very bored but at least there's beer
Be careful....fitted a shock sock to my rsv4....went to the tt ....800 mile round trip and one side of the shock sock had completely melted away...the side i couldnt see..ie facing the pipe...
Youre welcome....i would rather have one on there but alas no....in the middle of summer sitting at the lights with a full set of leathers on within 3 seconds its like sitting on a bbq...
Your probably right , termi pipe will destroy it I think. It's pretty close to the pipe. Looks like I going to have to get paint brush out again and tart her up a bit
I have one on a 1098. Comfy's quite correct they do burn, mine has never melted but it's needing replaced. Depends on the mileage and conditions you ride in IMHO. A replacement sock is cheaper and a lot less hassle than pulling the shock out to get new seals. Mine also seems to have done a good job to date, protecting the shock. I suppose it could be modified to get some form of heat reflecting material on the side that burns but its never been that high on my list to warrant looking into it.
Mine really did melt away...wish I kept the pictures now....in fact it was so melted away that I literally just pulled it away from the bike without undoing it....but, the shock is about 2" away from the pipes...actually - not even that...
I've used them on 3 or 4 bikes and I like them, they do a great job of keeping the crap out. I originally bought one for my Sprint 1050 cos I couldn't find a hugger for it. After two big European trips the shock was still mint.
I may just have a look , seems more benefit than hassle to try an in-expensive experiment. The mileage and conditions I ride in aren't the best so worth a go . Cheshire weather through winter isn't the nicest to an Italian beast. I've recently just had to repaint all the front end metal parts as a result of daily commute . See pic before prep and paint
Ah....thats ducati right there....that...was exactly the same as the fuel pump i just took off earlier on....
I just like to think of it as a weight saving exercise . Ducati slowly but surely sticking to the shedding pounds diet One layer of paint at a time . All sorted now though thankfully .
