I am changing the bushes man seals on my 1260s Multi. The first task was to slacken the preload on the non- electronic fork. It is seized solid. I have removed the fork cap, undone the pin nut, removed the o rings, heated up the errant parts but still they refuse to budge. Any ideas?
If science doesn't work , get out the big hammer....... Watch the episode of Fawlty Towers where John Cleese persuades his car to start with a branch. It works on the Pantah....
I had the same on mine, I had to use a lot more force than I was comfortable with to free it, chewed up the aluminium nut quite a bit in the process. Presume you know whether it's stuck fully in or fully out?
Thank you @GTmorgan It is good to know that I haven't been singled out on this one. Tried more force but the aluminium nut is too vulnerable so having removed the cap from the fork and removed the pin nut, and black aluminium nut I clamped a 17 mm bolt in the vice with the head protruding I applied a copious quantities of heat and torque, turning the cap head against the bolt head til the bastard gave in. It was fully in.
Yeah, had to strip mine down too, mine was fully out. You can't buy just the cap either, have to buy the whole fork leg!
