Morning all, i gather a popular mod on the 749/999 series is to fit a throttle /twist grip assembly off a Yamaha R1...what benefits does this bring?... the throttle on my 999S seems pretty light and responsive as it is.
Essentially, the R1 mod allows you to open the throttle fully, in a single hand movement, rather than having to use a two-stage movement. It reduces the number of degrees travel required between a fully-closed and a fully-opened throttle. If you have no need to open the throttle fully, you probably don't need the mod. A side-effect on mine, and with some others who have posted their experiences, is that slack is almost eliminated, meaning that the throttle begins to open as soon as you start to twist the grip. Personally, I like this side-effect
My throttle is stock as far as I know, and yes i'm happy with it as it is, i was just curious to know what the Yam mod was all about...now I know I think i'll leave mine as it is.
I found they offer no real noticeable improvement. A made for purpose QA throttle is the best thing to get, if you want to change.
The difference in twist is not huge but like Loz, I found the virtual elimination of free play to be a huge boon. These bikes have such fierce throttle response that the improvement in low speed throttle control alone is well worthwhile
Not worth it... I barely noticed the difference, if you want change get a quick action kit... I got it and ended up getting the later.
