Race Bike Chains Are Always So Clean Whats The Secret?

  1. Before we get onto all the threads regarding which products are best and I know we all have our favourite brands/products and methods of cleaning . However it has always puzzled me even after being in the pits at road racing events such as the TT as to why chain and sprockets always look like new? Is it because they are chained stripped and cleaned at every race? I think my obvious presumption is correct but I always have an envious admiration when in the paddock looking at such clean shiny examples of drivetrains.

  2. What Steve said........there used to be an ebay seller with 1 race old chains

  3. They employ chain monkeys...

  4. Really? So you can shag a chain in one race? The reason I ask is because I have a track only 1098R and its yonks since I changed out chain and sprockets. They seem ok and I keep them squeeky clean.

  5. The logic is more belt & braces as opposed to a knackered chain..

  6. Interesting, as the chain will stretch in the first 50 miles approx, I would have thought they want a chain that has 'settled down'?

  7. I've just fitted a pre stretched Renthal to mine, perhaps they take the same approach?

  8. Thanks for the insight:)
