Finally had to let the battered race boots go and now need a new pair. I went on line and bought EU size 44/UK 10 Dainese Torque 3 Out Motorcycle Boots but couldn't zip them up. So then I bought DUCATI CORSE V5 AIR RACING BOOTS discovering my feet will not slide in properly. The lesson here might be I have to visit a store for a proper fitting. Anyone else struggling with this?
Go to a shop. Try on. Say “Hmmm…maybe later” Go home Buy on internet. Or…. Buy another pair just like the ones you are replacing. (That’s what I did) Simples.
I’ve stuck with the Alpinestars super duper GP things (the ones everyone gets). The right boot zip is a right bastard to get up and still is to this day. But the Alpinestars were a quantum leap in comfort from Dianese.
An alternative is have your letters let out and add zip/stretch in calf to allow boots to go inside leathers
Just replaced my Daytona outerboots as trying to get the originals repaired post-Brexit by the factory proved to be in the "too difficult" category when they were returned by the courier due to the wrong/missing commodity codes on their "import" to the EU Single market.
Well thanks people, I thought for a moment my webbed feet were unique . So will go and try a few pairs on somewhere because the returns postage and disappointment are killing me.
IME, the internet is useless for buying boots because no two boot manufacturers size or style their footwear the same, nor is the ‘next generation’ of the same boot the same shape or size. Daytona is the only off the shelf boot maker that offers boots sized for awkward shaped feet. Andy
Where’s your nearest Sportsbikeshop branch? I’m a bit spoilt as the main store attached to the warehouse is nearby so has a vast amount of stock - but they will also ship to any of their branch stores for free for you to try on. You could order a selection and then try them all to compare in store - no backwards and forwards hassle. Forma boots seem to get recommendations for large calves - sizing recommendations are to go one size up from your usual. The Hornet is a less race focused model but has a looser fit, the ice pro is a race boot with lot’s of calf adjustment. They have just released a top end race boot called the Phantom which looks pretty nice but it hasn’t made it to the uk yet. https://www.formaboots.com/en/categoria-prodotto/racing/
Boots are tricky tbf... I've got Alpinestar Supertech R's and they are amazing, easily worth the money even over the GP Plus/SMX Plus in their range (which are the ones I always use to have). If you buy Dianese and buy the ones designed to go under the leathers, they will always fit differently and obv can only be used with special leathers.
Daytona's dont work that well with Dainese trousers as the inbuilt shin protection can make them difficult. I think if you wear Dainese, you need Dainese boots In or Out. I sold my Daytona's due to this and bought in's. TBF, despite weak zips, the in's are quite good. But if I was doing this again, I'd buy Daytona's and Furygan or Alpines instead.
Safest boots are Daytonas but not everyone can get on with them. You could say that about any boot though Ofcourse. I run supertechs. They’re made out of tissue paper, I wanted Daytonas as supertechs don’t last at all but I didn’t want to spend a grand on boots and I got the new alpinestars cheap (the new ones as well which do look slightly better made than the previous gen). £500 odd quid retail now though which is frankly nuts for boots I had to resole three times in 18months! I did look at gaerne which I’ve heard good things about. But the clasp thing would get snapped off in the event of a crash.. which is never far away for me
I wear Forma boots and love them. done about 5K miles in them and they seem solid , toe sliders hold up well when leant over
