racing and wet tyres advice please

  1. I have one last comp this season and want to get some wet tyres just in case.
I have never raced with them before as I have never bothered to risk life and limb up the hill, prefering to marshal and watch. I'm getting on a bit you know.
Anyhows this years competion is close and out of the three riders in my class whoever wins, wins. And I really want to win again this year as this time it's never been more competitive.
So I'm going to get some wets from ebay .
As said never used em (and hopefully it'll be dry) , but a run will last about 40-42 secs as oppossed to 36. something in the dry.
Do I use tyre warmers seeing as how the run is so short and if they are hot will they grip more or just cool to quick for it to be no use, and what pressures do I run them at.
Yeah I know there's no fool like an old fool.
    Pete.

  2. I've raced on wets and the difference is AMAZING!! Thinks pushing hard on the road in the dry and you get the idea. It takes a little while to accept that the grip is there and you really can ride that fast. I didn't use tyre warmers, but I waas racing in the early/mid 90's where only the pros had them! Everyone should ride on wets at least once in their biking lives!

  3. Thanks Nick
One thing is though,it's on a tarmac uphill road which is tree lined and has nowhere near the grip of a racetrack with jagged granite lined walls part of the way up with pavements edged with slippy worn granite and a solid white line all the way up.
If it rains it takes a while for the complete track to get wet, then ages to dry out under the trees so its wet to dry in places .
But I'd like to try wets simply from your response thanks.

  4. i run racetec wets
    30 front 30 rear cold
and have them on the warmers for half hour tops!

  5. What size rear on a 999 180 or 90 and does the difference on the front between 120/65 and 120/70 do much

  6. shouldve mentioned it is a yamaha R6 i race in the scottish superstock championships !
my dry tyres are 120/70's front and 190/55 rear...my wets are 120/70 front 180/55 rear and i dont notice any difference with them
