Just asking, but what are peoples opinions on radiator guards. I was thinking of getting an Evotech one for my Multi, but someone in Riders suggested I be careful fitting a rad guard as this could push up engine temperature. But he did say that if I do fit one, to fit one made of mesh rather than one made of punched out aluminium sheet. Any opinions or recommendations please.
Got an Evotech rad and oil cooler guards on my 1200R makes absolutely no difference to running temp Ped
. Evotech fitted and no running/temp issues whatsover. Incidentally, I made my own oil cooler guard from Gold mesh. Again no issues... The Evotech is head and shoulders better quality than the R&G..(in my opinion!)... .
Fit Evotech rad guards to every bike I get. Usually the first thing I do. Never affects running temp but a stone through the radiator will.
Bmw were famous for their warnings about fitting Rad guards to the GS LC with dealers saying it would affect warranty blah blah blah and that the engine temps wopuld be affected blah blah blah Guess what The new GS Rallye comes with Rad guards as standard !
I have Evotech on my 2017 and on my 2015 DVT - no issues what so ever - bike normally ran at 60 to 65'C on move and crept up to 100 in stationary traffic - then fans kicked in and she cooled down No difference between with / without rad guard.
If they've made the rad size so close to the limit that covering a tiny % of the surface area makes it overheat, they've ballsed up. I think they're an absolute must.
