rad leak

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Carter, Jan 8, 2014.

  1. Decided to start giving my 1098 a service and once over yesterday as I do it all myself only to discover the dreaded top left radiator leak, just below the mounting point. Rang ducati Leeds who quoted £620 for a new one.... anyone on here had one repaired? Place called aaron radiators has caught my eye but only give a three month warranty on repairs, not to keen on ebay either as I don't want to but someone else's leak! Options?

  2. I have read quite a few threads about this and some have had them replaced under warranty either by free labour or free part from dealers as it is considered an acknowledged fault, search and try one of those dealers

  3. Wildcard option if Ducati don't play ball...........

    StudioReinert: Racing radiators

Doesn't have the OEM's fans as it sits back closer to the engine, but has more cooling capacity.

Only really a potential problem if you ride in town a lot or on roads where your fans activate often. Saying that, with almost double the cooling capacity, it might not be such an issue.

  4. Leeds wouldn't entertain anything other than me buying a new radiator.... not a fan of the place in the instance but this is the final straw considering its a known problem.

  5. I had a radiator repaired on my old 650 burgman.
they gave a short gtee too.

it didnt matter as the repair was excellent anyway and it outlasted my ownership.
that too was silly money to buy new.
the repair was about £80 or £120.

I cant remember but a lot cheaper for a work hack such as my burgman and your 1098 :p

  6. Yeh, been looking at that today. Looks exactly the same other than the cap....repair or after market, decisions!

  7. For the money, I'd give that radiator on flea-bay a go.

It might be the buy of the century........or scrap metal, but worth a pop either way!

  8. When mine went I was out of warranty and ducati paid for the part, I paid the labour. Try another dealer. It's not up to ducati Leeds, its DUK who decide wether or not to authorise the part. Might be worth taking a few picks and emailing them direct and also explains how unhelpful the dealer were.

  9. Email sent to Ducati UK explaining how let down I feel with their brand i.e. no recall on a known problem etc. and my experiences with the dealer....we'll see!

  10. Yep do this. Mine went at about 11k and three and half years old. Ducati Preston replaced it for free with no labour charges either. This was about 2-3 years ago now so things may have changed but Ducati acknowledge the cause of the leak is usually due to a manufacturing fault caused by over torquing the mounting bolts when fitting the rad, so will replace the rad foc but when it comes to labour for fitting it may vary between dealers.

  13. I've had mine replaced although the bike is still under warranty as I took out the extra year. With regard to getting it replaced outside of warranty you'll need to find a friendly dealer. I work for an Audi dealer, they offer something called "goodwill", if the vehicle has full service history ie you've been loyal to the brand/dealer, what happens is Audi pay a percentage, the dealer pays a percentage & the owner pays a percentage, works quite well as it does tend to keep people who are aware of it within the dealer network.

Do Ducati offer such a thing, being owned by Audi?

  14. Problem with that is I lost my confidence in the main dealer a long time ago for several reason so all my bits are done through an independent.... no doubt that will be held against me

  15. mine to

My 848 has just got the same leak and im going through my dealer riders Cardiff who have been really helpful just waiting to see what ducati uk say now....been quoted £850 all done so hope they come through...

  16. Try talking to Terry at Italia Moto, Lincoln. If there's owt doing regarding warranty/recall he'll sort you out. Great service and on your side, in my experience.
