1200 Radiator Hose "sucked In"

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Mictz, Jun 5, 2016.

  1. Hi guys,

I was washing the bike yesterday and it came to my attention that the radiator hose from the radiator to the water pump was sucked in while the bike was cooled off and it is showing suction movement under throttle up to 6-7k rpm. No overheating or bad running though. Perfect coolant level. Bike has 23000km.

I know that it may be a stuck radiator cap or air in the cooling system.

Has anyone faced this and what was the solution?

Thank you very much in advance.

  2. Upgrade to Silicone hose set, they look wicked in Red.
The difference in weight and stiffness is remarkable.

  3. When I've seen this in cars it's either the valve in the radiator cap or the small pipe that goes to the header tank is kinked or blocked ...... this instance being that it sucks flat as the engines cooling down

  4. Good day guys and thank you for your responses.

Went to check it out yesterday with my mechanic. They did not find anything that is wrong or something that could lead to a cooling system failure. I am going to replace the radiator cap just to be on the safe side.

Also they had a Pikes in the shop getting serviced and took the chance to take a look at the hose and compare with mine. The hose on the Pikes was a little bit flat in the middle and not round. Mine is round but still has suction movement under throtle @ around 6000rpm.

Maybe the vacum created was instant. Maybe it was always working like this and never noticed.
    Will see.

  5. Just to update the thread with outcome.

Radiator cap replaced today and there is no suction movement on the hose anymore.

    All good.
