Hi All, I have been carrying out a fair bit of work on the Panigale and i removed both radiators and completely drained them. I will be refilling with Motul Organic Factory line coolant. As both radiators were removed entirely i will be installing them again soon. (The radiator was drained and the overflow bottle emptied) Both are off so understandably air would have entered the system. I would like to flush any remaining coolant and then eventually refill. What is the correct way for me to tackle this and remove all air from the system. (I dont have a vacuum tool) Conventionally when flushing coolant i always do the following, Drain existing, Fill with deionised water. Run the bike let it get up to temp, Drain the water and refill a few times until all the old comes out. Once the water starts coming out clear and the flush is completed i slowly refill with the new coolant, and top up the radiator, I fill the overflow bottle just under half way. With the radiator cap off run the bike until the fans kick in and air rises to the top Squeeze hoses to push any excess air out Top off radiator slowly if the level has dropped Refill the overflow if it has dropped Doing the last few steps a few times usually has always removed air from the system but as i have completely removed the radiators are there any other steps i need to take?
All sounds fine, but a tip for refilling is do it with the bike on the sidestand. That puts the radiator filler at the high point of the system. You'll get the excess air out much easier with a few squeezes of the coolant pipes. I prefer to run the bike up to temp with the cap fitted. When the fans kick in, keep an eye on the temp. If it drops fairly quickly, you've pretty much expelled all the air when filling. Let it cool and then check/top up the rad and expansion tank.
