Rain tyres for 999 Track Day bike

  1. I am pretty much a chicken in the rain but as I don't want to just sit there after paying the day I am looking for a set of wheels for rain use.

My main wheels have Bridgestone R10 and I would like to hear any experience using these in the wet. Last year I used Dunlop Sportmax Sportsmart which were great in the dry but felt unsecure in the wet (I know others think they are great in the wet but I almost lost the backwheel several times on the 916).

Do rain tires have the same aging issues as other tires? I'm looking to buy a set af wheels with rain tyres that are a couple of years old and I wonder if I can just use them as they are?

Lastly I would like your recommandations if I get new ones. I'm partial to just buying Bridgestone out of habit.

    tnx

  2. I've got a set of wets for sale on 999 wheels, I'll look at what's on them

  3. The tyre of choice on the wheels I have for sale at Michelin.

Pm me if you wan to talk money :-D

  4. I ran Michelin wets on my 999, mega.

  5. Got the wheels, they had Michelin Pilot wets on. I can't decode the tire numbers to find out how old they are but I'm pretty sure they have to be replaced.

  6. full race wets are the best security you can get. Full on knee down with no drama if you're smooth enough. Or you could try Michelin pilot road 3s, being road tyres you should have no real heat cycle or ageing issues and they're fairly frikkin awesome from cold and damp to completely pissing it down.

  7. as above, Pilot Road 3 are whata freind has for all commuting & touring, he loves em. Says they are v v good in the wet.

Myself, I think race wets would offer more security as per above.
