  1. Looking for some advice from some one who has fitted a new MC.

There is a grub screw that locates the OE MC in the clip-on but doesn't appear to fit any allen key. Needs to come out as the new MC doesn't have the recess.

How did you re-fit the fluid reservoir as the bolt hole that is on the OE MC isn't present on the RCS?

    Cheers

  2. They are usually roll-pins, not grubs. Saw it off.

  3. Cheers - manage to pull it out with a pair of pliers.

  4. Had a go today but the damn thing doesn’t seem to fit.

No bolt hole to fit the reservoir.
The lever strives the switch gear.
The angle and length of the MC and lever is different to the OE one.
The bolts that hold the MC foul with the triple clamp.

Am I being a total numpty or have they sent me the wrong one?

  5. There aren't really different versions so they can't have sent you the wrong one, they're never really a simple & straightforward swap. I think your best bet is to get a pair of replacement Renthal bars they're cheap and longer than stock, remove all the switchgear & throttle and re-drill and pin them so things don't get in the way. I use a longer bolt and fix the reservoir bracket to the clipon mount.

  6. Cheers - do you happen to know what diameter I need?

  7. Switchgear is too wide, you need the M/C closer to the throttle, maybe you can fit the switchgear the other side of the M/C if the bar is long enough?

On my 916 and M900 (have a thinner switchgear) I had to cut off the side exit 'port' for the switchgear cable and re-route it through a newly drilled hole to make it thin enough to be able to get the M/C close enough to the throttle to prevent it fouling.

  8. I think the "industry standard" is 7/8 imperial or 22mm :)

  9. Cheers - tried that, the switch gear fouls the triple clamp on the other side. I'm going to try Tykes suggestion of a longer bar.

  10. Forgot to say, I also have longer bars on the 916 although I had already fitted them so couldn't tell you if it would all have fitted on the standard bars.

But that switchgear is thicker than the old type, does it have anything extra in it other than kill switch and start? if not maybe you could fit the old style narrower switch?

  11. Its just the kill switch and starter......

  12. Try replacing the hex headed screws with cap heads to give a few mm more clearance?
There is a RCS reservoir kit available... think it mounts off the clamp screw iirc.
BikeSport Developments do a slim CNC switch gear but it's quite pricey. Much thinner than stock though.
Never straight forward switching over nowadays as room on the bars is at a premium with the switchgear and FBW throttles...

  13. Cheers - ooh more shiny bits....

I haven't had a chance to trace the cable back yet - where does the cable plug in - is it a bugger to get to?

  14. Nah.... just under the RHS fairing trim iirc.

  15. Cheers - new switch arrives tomorrow so I'll confirm location.

  16. Can confirm this is correct and as it turns out pretty easy to fit even for a spanner novice like me......
