749 Re-map

  1. Guys , I'm looking for some advice .....my 749 stinks of fuel when I start it and has always been a bitch to start from cold. It's has a race can on , that was on when I bought it from Riders Bristol 4 years ago , so I thought I'd invest in a specialist having a look at it for me ( and my mate who has and "S" ) ,does anyone know of someone who can undertake this in or around the Midlands ( I'm in Shropshire) though we are happy to travel.... Also I need my belts changing ?
    Cheers Mike

  3. Some other things to consider. The 749/999 have issues with poor earthing. A lot of us have had great success with running a secondary earth lead from the battery -ve to the starter motor bolt. Adding secondary leads from the battery +ve via the starter solenoid to the starter motor improves things further. Spark plug choice is also important. If you want to run Iridium plugs then increase the gap over stock. Personally I run stock plugs now. The coil/injector/pump relay is prone to water ingress and Verdi Gris. It is a cheap part and should really form part of your annual service regime. It's a PIA to get at as it is below the starter solenoid behind the battery box heat shield. There is sufficient cable to relocate it outside the battery box. You will find a convenient rubber holder top left of the battery box for it to live in.

  4. Will take you advice and sort it when I tear the bike down in the winter , as I want to sort the paint flaking on the engine . Thanks for your comments I appreciate it . Any other issues with the 749 ? ...

  5. The 749s fuelling can be adjusted and setup with diagnostics and an exhaust analyser. I'd get that done first before you begin thinking about remapping tbh. It takes a hour tops.

  6. JHP in Coventry can do this. A they remapped my mates baby R for £250.
