Can anyone confirm it’s a 36mm bi-hex socket to undo the rear axle? Chain needs adjusting, and annoyingly I have two 36mm sockets, but they’re both just single hexagon style.
I bought a special socket...not cheap! https://motowheels.com/i-17726768-s...rW_HpR3X53KBVGegApfQu7SUV5EK7P9oaAu6rEALw_wcB
I may be wrong but is it not either 46mm (small hub) or 55mm (big hub)? Not heard of 36mm before. Edit - my bad, thought it was a single sider. Ignore everything I said.
I still have the big boy 55mm from my precious single-sider bike’s. I’ve ordered a bi-hex 36mm so I guess we’ll see if it fits in a few days.
From memory it’s 56-58mm slack, with the bike on the side stand. I just did it by eye. To be honest, as much as I loved the simplicity of chain adjustment on the single-slider, this really didn’t take any longer. The only thing I might do is buy a laser to check the chain run is straight.
Recommend getting this, so you can tour with the knowledge if needed. The mechanic can use your dual-socket & get the wheels off.
£70!! Gulp. To be honest, I don't think the socket sizes are all that unusual - I think 30mm at the front, and 36mm at the rear. I'd be a bit surprised if most decent workshops didn't have those sizes. Different story for the 55mm big boy on a single-sider.
