Rear Brake Lockup!

  1. I dont use my rear brake that much because it is so useless, but on this ride I persevered. After a few kays of a downhill run the rear brake locked up. The pedal was locked and would not depress anymore. After a ten or so minutes it freed itself up. Is this a common problem with the 1000ss?

  2. could of cooked it a wee fluid change maybe.

  3. Fluid was changed about 2 weeks ago, just about cooked it, the disk was glowing red when I looked down!

  4. strange way the master wouldn't return. seen lots on cars where flexy collapses internally wont let fluid return to reservoir jams brake on dissipates after a wee while

  5. The pedal did return, it was just jammed and wouldnt depress.

  6. I have had this on my 748
It turned out to need rebleeding
It is a pig to bleed the rear brake on my 748 tbh

  7. Ok I'll try to rebleed, see how it goes. Still dont know what caused it though.:frown:

  8. If the pedal has been adjusted it could have no free play so stops the fluid returning, or
the return port is blocked with crud,
or the pistons in the rear caliper are sticking just 3 things it could be.

    brian.

  9. Have you adjusted/messed with the pedal? If there's not enough freeplay it will do this.

  10. That makes sense, I adjusted the pedal because it was hitting the fairing. Thanks fellas!

  11. Seen it loads of times on old SSs they love to bind on and fry things! Mate pulled up once with flames coming off the back end

  12. That would've been a sight!

Just as well my wheel locked up otherwise I probably would've seen more than a glowing disc!!

  13. It was, and his boot and pipe were all charred. Funny tho :upyeah:

  14. Not for him I bet.

  15. Is there a different brake setup I can replace the original one with to improve it?

  16. Mine locked up just after exiting a roundabout - leaving a long black line - quite scary tbh

  17. You can put a 916 one on afaik, lots do, not sure if its any better

  18. I reckon it was purely an adjustment thing if it's anything like the carbed SS rear brakes....

.....You can't just get the angle of the pedal as you want it; you have to check the free play on the adjustable rod as well.......

.......you need about 3mm movement at the actual toe piece of the pedal - which incidentally can be taken up very easily if you have a habit of resting your foot on it as you ride......

  19. I think they have the same caliper anyway? Certainly the Monster and 916 have the same caliper and I'm pretty sure the SS is the same as the Monster?

916 rear brake is crap too...

  20. cigar to Brian :)
