Rear brakes going on track day.

  1. Hi,

I took my 848 to Brands Indy for a track day, I would lose my back brakes after just starting my session, could push hard down and nothing...I think they would come back by end of 20min session if I wasn't using them (Ive since been told several times shouldn't need or be using them anyway) I still want to get to the bottom of the issue...I have fitted new pads, but the old ones were still fine...someone on the day said it could be happening because the fluid is boiling of not the correct type for track use...

The front no problem, but I fear it could happen to them too...which wouldn't end well!

    Any help/info appreciated.

I'm going to Donnington in a week or so and want to have sorted by then.

    Thanks...

  2. Back brakes shit, they're notoriously bad. I rarely used mine. The only time I'd use it would be for an emergency stop. On its own I'd feel no effect, but combined with the front I could.

If you're losing it at the start of the session its either a) fluid needs changing ASAP b) you're using it way too much and boiling the fluid, so fluid need changing c) air trapped in the system degrading performance d) do you cover the lever? Any chance you could be riding the brake and boiling fluid?

if anything you should be getting fade from the front as these work harder. My money's on you over using the rear and boiling the fluid. Replace with fresh and use less would be my advice.
