Hello guys. I'm having trouble seating the large circlip back in place after cleaning out the rear hub. Are there any special tips or tricks please?
The workshop manual section about rear hub circlips is wrong. It confuses the large and small circlips. Don't believe it.
I had the same problem too. Perseverence and making sure the hub was fully seated, WHILST AT THE SAME TIME TRING TO FIT THE CIRCLIP, got me there in the end.
You’ve got the open side in so I’d be tempted to get a flat punch and gently tap the larger, closed, side over the lip until it pops home.
Thanks for your help everyone, got a couple of C clamps, try to press it in tight, going to see (!) If they help....
Aye, some are, good to know, my one seems the same on both sides, finally got it back in, that was the most difficult part of an otherwise straight forward job
Was basically a test of my patience, combination of cleaning, excess grease removal, gentle tapping and perseverance! C clamps might have helped a bit
I'm sure you're right , and not doubting you at all, but this is from a 1299 workshop manual, I also did my 1260 Multi when I had it, and it was the same. Just don't want you to damage the hub etc, my circlips went back in without any force. Ignore me if I'm wrong.
Interesting, I did all the steps apart from aligning the hub centre on the horizontal line. Maybe that would have made a difference, but I don't understand why?
