1000 Rear Hub Drive Problem

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by 6274rico, May 20, 2023.

  1. Hi ,unfortunately my rear wheel came loose, and broke off the wheel locating pegs luckily there's no other damage to thd bike .no it looks like the pins are bolted in position on spindle shaft.
Does anyone know if I can buy new pins and bolts or is it a new spindle?
    Cheers steve.

  2. It may be possible to replace the locating/drive studs however, since your unfortunate event resulted in some of these breaking off, this may have overloaded or damaged the flange or shaft of the spindle.
If it were me, I would replace the axle (for peace of mind).

  3. Nightmare, can you share an image or three?

  4. How did it manage to come loose..? Was it insufficient torque.? Was the safety circlip not fitted..?

  5. Unable to give you a answer to that as I just don't know

  6. Who took it off last, when and where?

  7. Hi Steve.
I'm in a similar position with a 1200 MTS Drive Hub which I have as a spare. The 4 drive flange wheel locating spigots are press fitted into the spindle drive flange and theoretically they can be replaced as I've just pressed the two broken ones out that I need to replace. I can't see anything on any Ducati parts diagrams that show the spigots as replacement parts.
Here's a pic of the one I have showing the stubs of the spigots. I might have to have some machined up by a jobbing shop in order to be able to place this spindle back into use.
Anyone got a clue where to buy these spigots off the shelf, if at all possible ? Many thanks.

  11. Thanks Steve. Worth a chat with Craig at Moto Rapido, he should be able to confirm same fit or not on the 1200. Ta mate. R.

  13. Spot on Steve. I ordered mine using the same part number as yours. Look to be the same but worth a punt. A new spindle is £732 for the MTS 1200 so for the sake of £25 for two pins, it's worth me seeing if I can keep the old spindle active instead of writing it off. Glad you got yours sorted mate.
