Well, ive had another brainwave....go with me on this.... After redesigning my rear tail tidy - I had to have 10 made as it was kinda in the whole designing package with the fabricators - they've almost gone now....got a couple left....ive switched to the underseat mudguard....as ive had mine dyno'd and the flapper valve marked off ive ripped all that stuff out now and as a result the rear mudguard under the seat is just tie wrapped to whatever I could get tie wraps round....so, ive given the fabricator one of my tail tidy's back and the stock underseat mudguard and he's going to come up with a design for a new mudguard that bolts to the same place that the tail tidy does - should give more protection from the elements as well... so aftermarket tail tidy or not if you've had yours dyno'd then im assuming youd be pulling out the cables and flapper valve motor and then end up with the same scenario as me.... whaddaya think...?
Great idea!!! I will be first in line to get one from you. That is a really good design which they have used on the new hypers for the high mudguard.
Cool. I've never seen one of the new ones so I can't say but it seemed obvious that for most people the flapper valve removal is the first on the list.... So it makes sense to try to tidy up underneath..... Not exactly a bling upgrade but more of a practical one... I'll post up what comes back... The only other thing is thickness.... I'm thinking more 3mm stainless than 2mm... Tiny bit heavier but more durable. I'll throw up pics as soon as I get anything back.... Also if any one wants one just say on here so I can get an idea of numbers....
Agree'd, I'd go for 3mm over 2mm especially in that location and what it is used for. What sort of price are we looking at?
OK- well, as I say when he's got something knocked up ill post a photo - If anyone has any input on design ill happily add it in as it makes it better for everyone. Disagree Hyperbim - whys that then??
Hi Comfy, happy clicking, no disagreement, I'm interested too, this is one of the bikes worst areas of design, I think 2mm will be ok
Little bit of an update. The fabricator has got a design but I have to take the bike back to him Friday afternoon. They think that the one mount point at the back (where the tail tidy goes) wont be enough. As far as he tells me theres an initial design pressed but they want the bike back to it can be put on there and an additional mount point toward the front to provide a bit more stability - I did offer to test myself but theyre not happy doing that. Once fitted (the initial mock up) ill throw up some photo's
Just to let you know I haven't forgotten about this, in fact, ive got a mock up ready to drop off to them tomorrow morning first thing. I had a quick meeting with the design lad and he pointed out that my idea for hinging the mudguard from the rear exhaust hanger/tailtidy mount point wouldn't be enough so ive extended my design down to the point where the 2 bolts are that hold the battery strap - meaning that at high speed (going forward) there will be wind resistance trying to push the mudguard down without that mount point. So, theres 6 mount points at the top and one at the bottom. Im hoping to have a stainless steel test piece by Friday...
Thought id put these up (just so you know something is happening....) essentially the mount point is the same place as the tail tidy and round the wheel further down one of the mount points for the bar that holds the battery strap. As I said before the fabricator was concerned that the force of wind at high speed would push the mudguard down into the wheel so it anchor's there (you can just make it out) it means it can be removed from underneath only... The taped back on bit is where I got a bit too overzealous with the scalpel....is everyone happy with that design. I think ive covered more than the stock one does. Once Theres a final design I think ive got enough in the kitty to get 10 made and ill also get them powder coated black then they wont stick out like a sore thumb...the whole idea is that it wont be seen....is everyone happy with that??
Well. It's being manufactured at the moment.... Although I'll have to wait for a few weeks..... Price is going to be 45 for stainless or an extra fiver for powder coated black.... I'm assuming everyone would rather have powder coated... Bit more expensive than I thought but I'm only having a small amount to made plus the initial sample is costing me 150 quid but they're you go... First when I get it I'll fit it and take some shots. I have to have 10 made so I'll gauge demand here.... See what goes...
Looking forward to this comfy, just in time for the crap weather, this is the worst bit of the std Hyper design in my opinion.
