Managed to break the bracket while attempting to undo 748 wheel nut, dammit. Switch doesn't want to separate from the broken bracket, so I'm looking to replace both. Used spares anyone? Bracket is #82910781A, dunno what the switch is (apart from being made of soft brass). And we're promised more decent weather next week and I've a new Metzeler that needs some spanking.
Hi mate. Get in touch with Russ at Ducati mondo in Halifax. He should be able to sort you and for a reasonable price!
You are right about the soft brass body of those switches, it’s a joke isn’t it? As that bracket is wrecked then you could carefully hacksaw down the threaded part that the switch goes into, in two places if necessary to weaken it before trying to remove again.
Thank you Bettes - I spoke with Russ and he probably can help next week, but he's moving into larger premises just now, so locating stuff is difficult at the moment.
As the switch is 20 years old, I thought it might be sensible to replace it anyway. Russ said you can sometimes undo it by grinding a slot out of 11mm ring spanner...
Haha, it’s the unit next door he’s moving into but he has got a fair bit to move. Probably take a week just to move the 748/998 body panels alone!
You can try that, that’s what I always use anyway, it’s a brake union spanner you need, 10 millimetres one end and 11 the other end. If it has already started crushing the body up with an open ended spanner then I doubt if it will make much difference tbh, I would just cut brkt open myself. You are right about the 20 year old bit though, but everyone likes to save a bit of money, the only bit that goes wrong is that the internal spring rusts so the plunger stops returning.
Looking at that bracket, it may have been fractured for some time , it doesn't look like a fresh break. Steve
Had one break about the same some years back. As I rarely use the rear brake in motion, I assume it was from holding the wheel during tyre changes. At the time I found a replacement on ebay.
Just wanted to thank Mr R for his outstanding service to biking brotherhood: Bracket arrived Saturday morning - brilliant!
Geoff at Baines Racing just called to say that he also had a used one in case anyone else needed one. 01327 858 510
