899 Rear Puncture. Bit Of Advice?

  1. Got to work.

Massive f*&k off screw in the rear.

I can get SMD to plug it for £25 all in. Debating calling Ducati Manchester to ask how much a new rear would be fitted and take my old tyre and plug it.

Saying that I would rather have the tools to do this myself as have a local guy will do me a proper repair for £10.

Quick check online shows rear wheel torque setting at 230Nm is this correct?

If it is I'm going to need a bigger wrench as mine only goes to 200Nm. Any recommendations?

I also need to get a fancy nut like this ?

Is rear wheel removal on the 899 fairly straight forward theres nothing quirky i should be aware of?

  2. OK got the info needed for 899.

36MM Bi Hex Socket and torque setting is 180Nm

  3. Dont get the alloy sockets such as Oberon as they are made of cheese and will round off first use unless you have already looisened to the correct torque is right with a proper steel one. You need the proper stainless steel moly-somethingorother ones.

Fyi, I got a big ass screw in the rear tyre a day before leaving on a European trip. The puncture repair did a good 2000 miles across Europe before I changed the tyre.

  4. Cheers man

Luckily I have the required tools after getting the info from dealer.

Friend plugged my 675R tyre which got a screw in an M7RR after 150 miles! Did 1800 miles and 3 trackdays on that rear!

  6. I bought a plug kit off of ebay for about a fiver, used it recently on a screw in the car tyre, 5 minute job

  7. I'll be doing it myself in future. I just didnt have the 36mm hex socket to get the wheel off. SMD were closer to work than a trip to get a socket.

DO you have a link for the plug kit at all?

  8. Last rear puncture I had was miles from any tyre places. Supergluing the screw in place lasted the thousand or so miles left on the tyre though. One of them emergency fixes that seem to work so well it was pointless replacing it.
