749 Rear Sensor Help

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Chris.King1, Apr 5, 2016.

  1. Ok, just had a new rear galfer disc and tyres fitted. On ignition, no error messages, but the engine management light stays on and no mph, just shows 0mph.

I bought titanium rear disc bolts, but sent them back to racebolt as heard these can interfere with the sensor.

They sent out Stainless Steel, or are they? So, it must be either titanium bolts and not SS (will try putting ball bearings in silicone in the bolts first) or the sensor is knackered? Not sure that the engine light would stay on though if all above, maybe it does. Any ideas welcomed!

  2. Have you spun the rear wheel? If not, do.

  3. Been out for a 20 min ride, and nothing.

  4. OK. Check the error code by holding the left button down on the dash and switching on the ignition. Keep the button held down and let EFI and then the fault code display on the LCD. You will get a number like 34.0 or 36.0. Post number.

  5. OK will try that later on and post. Thanks. Also maybe it could be the spacing between the sensor and new disc. Will post later

  6. If it is 36.0 you are probably on the right track.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  7. Stainless steel bolts don't work, use the originals.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  8. Indeed it is error code 36.0

  9. ...just took sensor off and ran the original bolt through and the sensor picks it up, so it is def the bolts. Going to try ball bearings in the bolts that are already in, failing that as @jusutus says, originals back in, even though they look sh1t.

  10. I painted mine black and ground the markings off them. Not that bad anymore. But hardly as pretty as titanium though... :Shifty:

  11. yeh its a pity, I did hear ball bearings silconed in work on this forum. So will have to borrow some from work, but if not, then standard ones back in. Thanks for help jusutus and everyone else. Easy fix, nothing major.

  12. I was the one who siliconed steel ball bearings into titanium bolts.

    Works a treat :)

Got the bearings from Halfords - iirc, they are the smaller of two sizes used in bicycle bottom brackets and come in a cage

I think these titanium socket-head bolts are by Racebolt.

As you can see, I have just placed steel ball-bearings in the socket for the allen-key and embedded them in clear silicone.
The ball-bearings provide enough of a magnetic signal for the speedo to work and to stop the engine-light from coming on.

  14. "Borrowed" some 8.8 hex bolts from work. All working a treat. Have some SS bolts that I bought from racebolt for sale now, although I'm not really sure if they are titanium, either way, very light.
