Fitted my Maxton gp10 rear shock this week and managed to try it out today. It’s like night and day compared to the standard shock. The Maxton feels more compliant and doesn’t lock out when the shock compresses at speed after hitting a big bump. Next job will be the front forks as they lack feel on bumpy roads.
I agree with what's said above. I am surprised these bikes are still handicapped by the suspension in this day and age. Very smooth roads or track, they're OK. Show them a bumpy road and they are a handful. Best money you can spend is on suspension.
The feedback I gave to Ducati when I bought the bike was that for a ‘premium’ motorbike the quality is lacking in certain places, especially the suspension. They must set a specification to the manufacturer of the suspension which would work in a variety of conditions. To have suspension that doesn’t work on normal roads is very poor on Ducati’s part in my opinion.
Unfortunately It's been the same way since the 899, even the 848 Evo had a Showa rear shock which I do think is a better quality shock. I will say though, my Sachs shock modified by MCT was REALLY good, it felt twice the ride quality as it had before, and now I've had the Ohlins, the Ohlins is mega for the range of adjustment but I think a reworked shock is good, just not left standard. I personally didn't have a big issue with the forks, they perhaps don't quite have the plushness I remember in my 899 ones but my 899 had 3k miles on it and I think the suspension just bedded in a little more.
I've just had the Maxton SD25 Cartidges fitted on my 899. I've only had one day out with them at Snetterton in very wet conditions but enough to tell that they are a massive improvement over the standard units, particularly under heavy braking. Next couple of months I'll sort out the rear with the gp10.
I’ve ran ktech for many years on many on my race bikes... but this year trying Mupo! Oh and what a bit of kit these are! So much more compliant, highly recommended!
