1200 DVT Rear Sprocket Change Q

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by HootOwl, Apr 9, 2020.

  1. Oh Gods of Mutley knowledge :D

Is there any shortcut to changing the rear sprocket on a DVT1200 ? The manual suggests the wheel has to come off, the big nut on the sprocket side needs to come off - and the whole lot then has to come off the hub ...that sounds way too much work for a sprocket change lol

Is all that work really necessary or are there any cheats for lazy people that want to make life as easy as possible ? :)

Like can I just undo the sprocket nuts and gettitoff and back on the flange that way maybe ;) ?

  2. Worth a look...

  3. Sprocket change is not what you need

  4. Nah, I think I will give it a miss. I was only changing it cos its got some marks on it tbh. It can stay as it is until its goosed

  5. The big nut has to come off to get the flange off.

The wheel stays on though. It’s straight forward, 30 minute job?

  6. Just done a complete hub removal and clean, worth it if your thinking of removing nuts.

You need to adjust the wheel to get the chain at its slackest to remove the sprocket carrier, and to hold the Allen head at the back to undo the six carrier nuts.

All in all a pretty easy job.

55mm socket, decent rattle gun to remove, 14mm socket for carrier nuts, pliers to remove circlip,on big nut, 12mm Allen key, chain adjust tool, 10mm Allen key to undo adjust bolts, decent spline grease to apply before replacing carrier, and of course a large f**k off torque wrench. Have I missed anything?

  7. Just been on my bike for the first time after the rear end clean and new sprockets, I went up two on the rear, now at 70mph it’s silky smooth, not bothered about any increase in acceleration but it definitely makes for a more pleasant ride in 6th.
