I'm changing the chain and sprockets but the sprocket cover is seized on to the axle. Ive tried hammer and wood, mallet, WD40 and three legged puller (it snapped a leg on the puller). I'm thinking I may have to cut it off with a dremmel and get a new one? Any one have any ideas or experience of this. This bike really doesn't like high mileage lol
The new front sprocket has rubber deadening on it which makes it impossible to get anything under the lock washer to bend it up. Any ideas?
You just don’t won’t to be shy about using the rubber as lever with a screwdriver . Once you have lifted the edge it will be easy to tap the blade in to lift it more.
This, I put a rubber front on my last 1260, it was a PITA to get the washer bent over the bolt. In the end, I gave it a little lip before placing it on the spindle and bobs your uncle, job done. As for the sprocket carrier (which is the part you chopped in half), I don't doubt it was seized however for those peering into this thread with the same issue - Let it soak overnight with some anti seize or similar, don't just try to pull, but instead put some bar (I used threaded bolts) through the flanges and give them some love taps forward and backwards with a rubber mallet. Doing so will likely break any points that are seized and it should slide off. If not, chop away!
