I currently have 12mm of rider preload on my rear shock. To acheive 25mm do I wind down the adjuster rings to shorten the spring length or wind them off to increase the spring length?
Do you mean sag? if so then to get more sag you need less pre-load on the spring i.e. back off the adjusters.
Yes sorry rider sag. I've backed the adjusters all the way off and still back end hardly compresses under my 75Kg load. Ohlins say the stock 24/ 80 spring fitted is rightfor my weight. Just thought i'd ask re preload incase i was being dumb.
Rear sag should normally be around 10mm.........Well, it is on mine, although I have lost a lot of weight since I set it originally for a 12.5 stone rider........ Just as well I like hard suspension, though.
Rider sag 25-35mm on the rear, static 10-20 ish Sping is too heavy if you cant get 25 rider, back it off far as you can
spring preload can be deceptive on a static machine as its just you bouncing up and down on it so not a real representation of how hard or soft it'll feel. remember that your swingarm and wheel are big old lumps and when its doing its thing it'll feel way different. Also did you measure it with all your leathers and kit on (or a simulated weight), as that will affect it, and if you got shit roads you might even find 12-15mm is better as the ride will be far more compliant. If you have 12mm of sag when you're on it surely that's fine? why on earth would you want 25 - that's soggy as hell. how are you taking the dimensions MK?
Good luck on the roads with 12mm of rider sag, even on track when you brake the rear will lift, unload, skip and not work effectively. This would give probably 3mm or less of static, it will simply top out under braking Been there, done that, read the info, had the crash
agreed bradders, but I get the feeling that once MK gets his terms sorted and measurements down all will be clear. if his rider sag is 12mm then his static is probably bugger all. for the record I was referring to static sag. MK - watch this - it should tell you everything you need to know:
