Rear tyre profile change

  1. Has anyone gone from a 190/55 to a 190/50 and noticed better handling as a result?

  2. I went from standard to standard....not sure why going from 55 to 50 should improve handling?

  3. Not that I noticed, but it really pissed off the traction control. Thankfully it was only temporary in an emergency situation.

  4. I was thinking that. It would be calibrated for a 55 rear tyre. A 50 would revolve faster and confuse the TC wouldn't it?

  5. Pretty sure the TC works on detecting a rapidly accelerating (spinning up) tyre rather than the overall diameter. As you lean you are going to change the effective diameter ratio from left to right. I've got a 50 SportSmart on the back of mine (Ducati dealer supplied and fitted). I seem to remember they said that it was the Dunlop recommended fitment, but I'm not certain. Anyway, I'm very happy with how the bike rides and handles. I understand that the actual profile of a tyre can vary quite a bit from different manufacturers, but that said, comparing my rear to Mac (I'm talking about the bikes now) mine looks flatter while his is taller.

  6. Interesting... Just checked Dunlop and they say 190/55. Seems to work OK, but I'm surprised that Ducati Dealer fitted something different.

  7. Yup sportsmarts should b right size. Had a few sets now.

    Bugs.
