Hi all, A good friend of mine and fellow Ducati owner had an off today. Thankfully at a low speed and wasn't injured but looks like the rear wheel just randomly locked up and threw him off! What I found really alarming is that as he lay in the middle of a roundabout with bike on top of him not one motorist got out to assist. There were a number of people around and they just sat there and watched us struggle. The only person who stopped to ask if everything was ok was a fellow Ducati owner. Anyone on here?? Has anyone had a rear wheel lock up for no reason what so ever? Bike is a 1299 Pan. Cheers
My s classic locked on downshift , ended up the spider spring in the slipper clutch had snapped stopping the slip action. A few years ago I crashed my 1098 and was in middle of a country rd with bike on me when an old lady in a merc drive right up to me then reversed and drove around me and away.
Sadly the inherent design flaw of big twins, it their habit to stall at low revs, occasionally, the inertia from slowing revs, is such, that sometimes the engine prefers to stall one it reaches tick over fueling rather than tick over. Ive had lock up on my 749s in between gear changes before due to this, and also, there is the possibility of double downshifting, which could also lock out the rear wheel. Slipper clutches aside, you get still get oddities. Could be neither of these, but sad none the less. Sorry to the rider and machine.
