899 Rear Wheel Nut Tool.

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by RacingDuck, Jan 27, 2016.

  1. Do I need a special tool to remove the rear wheel nut? I know it's a 36mm but I am not sure my standard 36mm garage socket will do because of "special" shape of the nut:flushed:

  2. You will need a nut shaped socket thingy, the shape of your nut, give it a Google

  3. The same socket as for an 1198?

Sorry, disregard my question..... I read further down....

  4. I don't know about other people's experience but my local tyre fitter used a standard 36mm impact socket on mine and caused no damage at all so I'm not entirely convinced you need to rush out and buy one of these ridiculously expensive sockets?

  5. Might be okay for a one off but I wouldn't make a habit of it, there is 160nm torque in that nut and so having the additional surface area isn't a bad idea. Also they are £10 available from machine mart and halfords, hardly breaking the bank

  6. You mean that these highly specialised and specific nuts made purely for our bikes are available in Halfrauds for £10?! Can't say that I've ever noticed any Ducati specific products there to be honest but maybe my store is a bit crap...

  7. Yes, I can order for click and collect at my local halfords. Also machine mart sent me one in 2 days for £12 delivered. The ones on eBay seem to be a rip off!

  8. Sweet, you have a link for the Halfords one? :) The only versions I can find are standard 36mm 12 point impact sockets...

  9. Yes as above, they are massive but probably the best option for the garage. I also spent out fifty odd quid on an aftermarket one to take on trips as they are nice and small compared to the Halfords/Machine Mart socket.

  10. You just need a 12 pointed 36mm socket, if you get the Halfords one and it's a 'Pro series' it comes with a lifetime guarantee.

  11. That's what I thought? The special ones that Machine Mart are selling are still like £50 and don't look any different in spec than the standard 12 point 36mm socket... I must be missing something here.

  12. Nope, "a fool and his money"as my dear old nan used to say. Plus a good steel one has got to be stronger than aluminium? I have been using my 12 pointed 36mm with an impact wrench for years with no problems at all.

  13. Exactly as I suspected. I was actually really surprised they were selling aluminium tools for torques of 180Nm+ to be honest.

  14. Found this 36mm in my local machine shop, about £8. Think it will fit perfectly.
    Thanks guys image.jpeg

  15. Are all rear nuts on the pani bikes the same size?

  16. They are either right or left hand thread dependant on which hemisphere you are in :)

  17. Like how the water flushes down the bog?

  18. So the answer is yes. Thank you young fella. Haven't seen you posting much lately.

  19. You got it :)
