Could somebody with an ST2, 3 or 4 do me a favour and stick a tape measure through their rear wheel spindle and let me know the length please. I'm assuming it's 25mm OD. I'm converting my M1000ie from steel swingarm to Aluminium and the existing spindle is @5mm too short. There were very few conventional (twin arm) aluminium swingarm models, just the M1000ie S, and I believe an ST4 variant. I'm struggling to find a long enough spindle, and thought perhaps a std ST one might be just that bit longer. Can anyone suggest something else? I did fire off a load of questions asking EBAY vendors to measure the spindles they had for sale, but almost none of them bothered to reply, including none that were selling an ST one, and those that did reply were mostly shorter than what I need. Thanks Nasher.
Nasher, My ST4 (1999 model year) measures at 323mm. (Allow +/- 1mm for my potential measuring innacuracy)
Thanks Geoffrey, that confirms they are the same length as my steel swing arm one, and just not long enough. Nasher.
Same measurement as my ST4s (aluminium arm). However, looking at the parts diagrams online, the ST2/3/4 (non-S) spindles have a nut on both sides, whereas the ST4s one is a different part that only has a nut on the brake side, and uses a counterbored head with internal hex on the chain side. ST2/3/4 (non-S) - 819.1.030.1A ST4s (and M900, M1000, Monster S4, etc) with Aluminium arm - 819.1.039.1A Hope that helps
I've got an ST2 and 3. I am going down now to do my exercise cycling now. I'll whip out the axle on the ST2 and let you know,
31.5cm I didn't take it off as I am getting too tired, but will tomorrow, if you want. I put a rod through the axle and measured total length, so that includes threads on each end - from memory, I don't think that it is a bolt and has nuts on both of the ends, as it is threaded at both ends. If you want, I'll take it off tomorrow and do some pictures.
Thanks Perry, would appreciate it. You should just be able to get a tape measure up the inside, I do need the total length including the threaded parts. Nasher
I've been looking for a spindle for over a week now, and finally posted today asking for help. And by chance this evening, this was posted on EBAY from an S4: A tad expensive, but does have everything else included that I need. I was going to have to skim a couple of mm from the sliders in the steel arm to fit the Ali arm, and re-bend the adjuster plates to fit. But now I have it all on the way, hopefully before the weekend. Nasher.
I found an SDS drill bit that fitted through the axle. I used this as a guide, marked it and then measured. I make it 32.4 cm end to end.
