Morning All Looking to book my first TD for next spring (ish). Aiming for March and want to book ASAP. I will be riding there so want to be within 2 hours of HP4 (Hemel Hempstead) so: Rockingham Bedford Aerodrome Silverstone Brands Hatch Donnington Mallory Any others? I Will be on a '99 GSXR600 so ideally lots of corners and not many long straights. Thx
First track day of the year? Brands. An easy way to get your track legs back after a lay-off, without the trickiness of Donnington's "is it or is it not slippery?" road surface. Silverstone seems less of a good bet for a 600. Never been to Mallory so cannot comment. Other, better opinions will be forthcoming soon!
not so much this last month but on the whole yes. yes i am. :smileys: i wouldn't ride mine round right enough. no problem doing it on yours :smileys:
I did my first at Silverstone this year - was going to take it steady but couldn't , I was thankful of the wide track at times and would recommend! The straights were a slight breather but the ride was manic with bikes all over the place, some fast but many slow and unpredictable in the Novice group the extra track width kept me out of trouble at times.
Brands Indy. Small and easy to remember the corners. I've done a few there and it's a blast. Paddock hill isn't the nightmare people say, more like exciting.
id stay away from mallory to start with not much run off!! id do silverstone as its so wide if you make a mistake your still be on the track.
Probably closer to 3 hours away than 2 but Cadwell is worth checking out. Fairly narrow and windy and set in beautiful countryside. My favourite by a long way.
If you're used to road riding, Cadwell is an ideal starter. It's like a narrow country lane compared to Brands, Donnington and the rest. Bit further to go though.
As you will see opinions vary, For my two penny worth I suggest Brands / Mallory not mega fast & nice easy to learn tracks, lots of reference points and the correct lines are easy to learn which makes it easier to work on your bike control, braking / turn in markers etc. , stay away from Silverstone only because you can run a different line every lap, every session . best bit of advice to tell yourself while riding round it is look were you want to go and at least 100m further ahead than you usually do,
I didn't see it mentioned, but isn't Snetterton within 2 hours? If so, maybe consider Snetterton too. For a 1st track day, Snett is nice, wide, open and flat. Plenty of room on the track and a simple enough circuit to learn.
Just over 2 hours but it is an involving 2 hours cross country where as other are straight up M1. Dull normally and i'd avoid like the plague on most Sunday morning blasts but i think that 70mph on the motorway may be ideal for riding home after a day at the track.
