The Mrs has suggested that we go for a ride out on my birthday weekend and stay away somewhere nice in a hotel. We've only got from Saturday late morning until midday Sunday so it can't be too far, therefore I wondered if there was somewhere good we could head towards in mid Wales perhaps? I'd probably head straight across the A50 to Stoke / Crewe and then from there........? Anybody got some good recommendations? Doesn't need to be biker specific destinations, just good roads on the way and a nice place for an overnight stay and a few drinks / meal
Derby, Burton, Alrewas, Rugeley, Penkridge, Shifnal, Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Craven Arms, Ludlow. Ludlow is very nice and is a foodie paradise. Detour via Clee Hill if the weather is ok.
I'm taking the UK Monster Owners Club to the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells for our annual Weekender in a couple of weeks. The hotel sometimes offers gourmet breaks with a 6 course tasting menu - worth checking their website for offers. It has a swimming pool and spa. Just across the road is the Arvon Alehouse - a proper real ale pub, no nonsense, just good beer. It is surrounded by some of the classic biking roads of Wales: the A483 passes through the town - Crossgates is about 3 miles north of Llandrindod - A470 nearby. You can head north west towards Snowdonia or south to the Brecon Beacons.
Easy.....This route was a regular for nearly 18 months, before I moved to Derby. Aberystwyth. It'll be a bit boring until you get to the turn for Welshpool on the A5, but it's loads of fun after that . Newtown to Llangurig, then Llangurig (scenery to die for and the bends have bends)! Through the mountains to beautiful Aberystwyth and it's gorgeous coastline. For a bit of luxury, stay at the Conrah Country hotel in Chancery, which is on the main road you'll be travelling on.
