When were these introduced? What models have them and which ones don't. And perhaps, more importantly, how essential are they? Can they be overridden? Would you buy a bike without one? Assuming it was supposed to have one!!
Introduced around 2001 when Ducati started to use the IAW59M ECU's. So any bike with the chipped key and immo system would come with the code card. Had Ducatis since 2001 all with immo and have never had to use the code card to bypass the immo The actual red key is more important as this will allow you to add new keys to the system if you lose one. The later bikes eg 848/1098/1198 etc no longer have a red key and the immo function for these bikes is now in the dash. However, as with all technology there are ways round all this. There are immo removal tools out there to bypass the immo if you have to buy a secondhand ECU, there are companies who can reset the coding in the dash so you can use secondhand units and there is hardware out there that can clone keys (if you lose the red one)
My old st4s ,Y reg, 2000 had one I think this was about the first . These days its not as important as it was back then . The immobiliser can be programmed off or there are different ECUs that can be purchased . Nemesis or the likes. I would buy a bike without one as long as the price reflected the missing key .
That would be right, the IAW59M's first appeared in the 996R and 998, but did not have immo activated on them.
