Hi All , Looking at all the recent posts on here the vast majority are for the 749 not the 999 . Is it a fact that the 749 was more troublesome ? or is it just coincidence ?
I don't think its down to the model, just the luck of the draw...a couple of my mates changed from jap metal to Ducati a few months ago ,1199S and 899 the bigger pani has had no probs whatsoever but the 899 has been a bag of shite, problems with the side stand switch, neutral being impossible to access among numerous issues, all sorted under warranty but hat isnt the point,he's seriously thinking about cutting his losses and going for a RSV4,and to be honest if it was me and my first experience of Duc's i'd be feeling the same...it seems there are still a few Friday afternoon jobs out there!...
That's like jumping out the frying pan into the fire! My mate had a test ride booked on the newest 'RF' model and it broke after it's first day being test ridden and the dealership were telling us that they are considering dropping them because they are just getting so many electrical issues with sensors etc.
Let's not forget we're talking about bikes that are over 10 years old now. So apart from the known issues, problems caused by age and abuse are now starting to appear. In 13 years of 749 ownership I've only experienced the stick coil ingress problem, and cracked mono subframe.
I had one a few yrs ago, was 2004, "s" model...Great little bike. I moved on and went through a couple of other dukes... Ive picked up a "barn find", its dog rough, but engine is tight. ( Must throw up a thread ).
