916 Removing Mirrors

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by tazmantic, Nov 30, 2015.

  1. Hi thinking of removing the standard mirrors off my 916 and fitting bar end mirrors, but will then need to cover where the old mirrors were, I've seen plates for this on evil bay before but not for a while are they easily available???

    Cheers

  2. Not sure if you are serious or not, but anyway please don't. It will look horrendous.

  3. I'm starting to think this is not recommended lol, I've seen a 1198 like it and it looks ok...........

  4. They look ok on the new bikes but not sure about these. Haven't seen any in the flesh.

  5. To be fair you'll see a lot more unless you are 9 stone and 5' 7"....and in thin racing leathers.
The standard mirrors just showed some fat bloke on a bike way too small for him.

  6. I don't think the mirror blanking caps are available anymore, it was a German supplier that was selling them but they were very expensive as they were anodised billet alloy.

There is a way of making them cheaply by using a plastic spoon (!) and gluing the threaded part of a bolt to the underside of it. I have seen this on a US bike forum and it actually looked quite decent. I mocked up the idea myself out of interest once and it did actually work, I never followed it through though as I only wanted to remove the mirrors for trackdays, I just changed fairings.

  7. Just use a cable tie or bolt/bolts through the mounting holes - if your bike's yellow, black or white you could try colour co-ordinated plastic number plate bolts?

Bar end mirrors work well on some bikes, I have them on my Monster and they are great on wide/flat bars but they're not up to much on low clip-ons (did a test on the LeMans) as you have to look down too much and then your arms are probably in the way - Plus they'd look shite on a 916..
