After some advise please. I'm currently looking to buy a 1200 monster, with the rear splash guard/number plate hanger fitted, low down on rear wheel. I'm sure it does a good job, but I don't like the look of it. Can I just unbolt it, and fit a tail tidy and move the number plate back up, is it that simple? Pic as example below....
The splash guard is there for 2 reasons. The obvious one is to stop your back getting filthy which, believe me, it does very well. The second reason is, UK road traffic construction legislation require the number plate to be behind the rear wheel. There is however a degree of leeway exercised by all the MoT testers I know, so long as the number plate is approximately the correct size, with the correct type face and clearly visible from behind. There is a wide variety of aftermarket tail tidies so fill your boots but be prepared for your or your pillion’s back to get messy. Andy
Thanks for reply, I'm sure it does a good job, just don't like the look of it, compared to say a later model monster.
Your challenge will be finding a secure mounting point under the seat/sub frame but good luck and I hope you find something more pleasing. Give the Conquest web site a look, there’s some good stuff on there and you just might get a forum discount. Andy
@Markmc mine was already done when I bought it, looks better imo. Does get dirty but worthwhile as far as I'm concerned and makes chain maintenance easier too I believe.
