899 Removing The Stock Reg Plate Hanger

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Dartanion, Feb 2, 2015.

  1. Can anyone point me in the right direction - looking to get a tail tidy to replace the shockingly ugly stock unit and trying to remove the original I can not see how to get the last fixings out - two nearest the centre of the bike - it looks like I will have to dismantle the whole of the rear end stuff to get at them - is this the case or not?

  2. long ball ended allen key

  3. Take the rear seat off. Either side there is a teeny tiny hole you can stick an Allen key through and get to the screws.

  4. Ok, that makes more sense - just didn't spot it when I tried at the weekend - thanks for the responses.

BTW - does anyone have any views on which tail tidy to opt for - most seem to suggest that the Evotech is the one to go for but £149 is somewhat eye watering.

  5. Mine bruudt. Cheaper than the evotech one. They're all over priced for what they are though.

  6. Bruudt makes evotech looks like monkey metal. And I like evotech stuff

  7. Thanks chaps, will try and search out the Bruudt version.

  8. 10% off evotech with code 675EP10%

Fella posted it over on the Daytona forum

  9. Any of these plate hangers EU legal?

  10. This sounds like a bit of a daft question at first as all a plate hanger does is act as somewhere to attach your number plate to. I would imagine the legal issues would be with the size of plate stuck to it!. However it has crossed my mind that the dogs dick of a hanger that comes as standard is there for a purpose such as to shield people from the back wheel like a mud guard or wheel arch does. There is such legislation on other road vehicles to ensure this. I'm not sure how anyone would get tangled up in the back wheel of a motorbike or how the ugly hanger benefits safety but bikes such as the Panigale may fall into this category. Maybe when the bikes are MOT'd will be the time we all have to dig the dogs dick out again.:Grumpy:

  11. Doesnt the number plate have to be at the very rear of the bike to be classed as legal. So having a short tail tidy isnt strictly legal as the rear wheel sticks out loads on mine

  12. Legislation in Spain (I'm guessing is the same for all of EU) talks about visibility and the angle the plate has to be in. But the most importat thing is the ITV or revision the state does to the vehicle which is very strict and this would never pass since is not approved by the government. In any case I can just swap for the original to pass the test but I would not like to be stopped by a cop and get a ticket...

  13. Yeah this is correct in UK. An officer of Derbyshire told me this and a few other "regs" a few years ago before handing me a piece of paper to get mine sorted on the D675.

  14. So really the carbon 'Ducati Peformance' tail tidy which is shorter than the standard but longer than the Evotech, Bruudt etc is about as short as you can go before you're in trouble?

  15. The Ducati performance plate holder is not road legal...

  16. It'd take a very anal cop to pull you for a tail tidy. Its more likely going to be for termi, small plate, dark visor, riding like a nob etc

  17. All cops here are anal...

  18. ive always thought that police in spain werent very interested in minor motoring offences like here in the uk?

  19. That's not true of you are riding a red Ducati.

I've had cops insult me an scream crap at me. Envy not football is the national sport.

  20. you cant blame them can you? Everyone loves a red ducati.
