Renewing photo driving license

  1. The dreaded form has arrived .
Given that they have messed up so many people's motorcycle entitlement and my luck .

What is the best way to back your self up so if the do wipe it off you have proof to they can't make you resist your test again?

  2. When you apply for the renewal just say you have lost the original and if the worst happens then you can 'luckily' find it again as proof of your entitlement. job done
    Steve

  3. Photocopy both sides of the card and paper bit.

  4. Simple isn't it

  5. They can now return the old one to you I think - think they've got their shit together after nearly being skinned alive for the early mistakes.

However, I just told them I couldn't find it when I asked to renew.

  6. I would recommend that you get someone independant to witnees and sign any copy to verify that it is a true copy otherwise the DVLC will accuse you of deception like they did to a bloke several years ago, threatening to take him to court. Andy

  7. So the best and safest thing to do is say oops it's vanished !!

Then if they mess up produce the old one and say oi!!!

  8. Do it online. That way you can keep the old bit til the new arrives .

  9. Put in a subject access request to DVLA under the Data Protection Act asking them to send you a copy of their driver licensing record for you first. Send off your licence once you've got their record that they sent you proving you have a bike licence, car, truck whatever.

  10. I'm pretty sure I've got a certificate of entitlement or something somewhere that says I can ride bikes.

  11. Same as TT600 says do it on line, no need to send your old license back until the new one arrives

  12. Also helps if you have a recent passport , means they can take that photo across.
    Good luck.

  13. When I renewed mine I photo copied both sides of both bits prior to sending them of and requested that they return the old one, this was returned with the corner cut off and was then followed with the new licence.

  14. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing - but my answer to all this is just don't get the new style licence in the first place, then you don't get ripped off for renewals every ten years and don't run the risk of DVLA messing everything up. I still have the old style paper licence and it doesn't expire till 2033...

  15. ...and never move house, gain a new entitlement etc ?!

what you say works, but only for a while.

  16. I had to have a photo one when I learnt to drive :(
I've only been driving a car for a few years.
I can't read my paper copy it's in little bits disintegrated !! Ooops

  17. I had an old paper licence till I took my bike test
I had to provide a photo card and the paper bit that comes with it they don't accept the old paper licence.

I had no problems sending mine and received new photo licence in two weeks job done :)

  18. I have just found my driving test report and my certificate of practical driving test pass certificate
    Have you got yours Mel?
That shows that your entitled to ride a bike if they do happen to miss it off

  19. @ TT600 - Yes, you are quite right... But I already have all the entitlements that I think I will ever need, and I don't plan on moving. As I said, hindsight is a wonderful thing : and what I said was really only me being smug... :)
