Hi Does anyone know if a worn crank and rods from monster 1200 can be repaired? The bottom end bearing have failed. Thanks
If the crank journals aren't too badly damaged they can be reground assuming Ducati produces under size bearing shells, which they probably don't. As ducV2 says the crank can be metal sprayed and reground back to size but If the rods are damaged the only answer is replacement.
I’m pretty sure the crank can be repaired to some extent. I know in Florida, there is a Ducati crank guy. I’m sure here in the UK there must be a specialist also. When my big end gave up, I was about to send the crank to him to polish and rebalance. On the 848 Evo motor you can get two sizes of bearings. I’m pretty good with motor rebuilds but I decided I was going to have a professional put on the rods to get the proper shimming … I think I can do it with the shim tools but …. Always in the back of my head, what did I do wrong!! In the end, I found a motor from an insurance total. Low side slide on track only 5k miles and now I have a spare motor to rebuild for fun.
