Replacement Screen

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Richie Rich, Jan 25, 2013.

  1. I'm looking at replacing the screen on my 848 for a zero gravity tinted one are they a good quality product or should I be looking at something else? Also regarding fitting is it just the case of removing the screen bolts and lifting away ?

  2. I've not got or had any complaints with my zero gravity. Probably one of the best replacements I've ever had in terms of finish and quality....tho not the cheapest.

The SR one is the same profile as the original one, then there's the double bubble ones. The light smoke is dark and the dark is black (black, black, no see through black).

You'll need a T7 torx screw driver for the bolts, they're not allen bolts, but yeah remove the bolts lift out and replace.

I bet you loose one of the two bottom wellnuts when you take the bolts out or try to put em back tho

  3. i bought a fitted the zero gravity light tint , great fit and easy to fit , and yes lost 2 rubber nuts so have to buy a allen bolt replacement set :( :upyeah:

  4.
  5. Take the nose off. Won't lose any well nuts then. Not that hard to do.

  7. If you have no technical skill whatsoever I'd say its quite a big challenge!

not insinuating that the op has no skill though!

  8. Just me......Then?

I did mean where's the challenge in doing it the easy way and removing the nose tho.

  9. M5 wellnuts ?

  10. The standard ones are smaller if I remember correctly and they're not well nuts really, they're just a rubber over brass normal nut shape.

  11. Will the standard ones be ok in the new screen ?

  12. Yeah, stock bolts are perfect still.

But seriously the bottom two nuts are a nightmare to not loose (and I bet you can't find them if you drop one).

If you don't loose them removing them....a tiny dab of superglue on them to hold them on the back of the new screen, prior to fitting it is my best secret tip.

  13. Yep lost two wellnuts i can see them down by the front light so how do i get them back without taking all the front end off, how do i can the speedo off as i think i can get them with it out of the way ?

  14. Lol.....just when you think you've got them they'll be of like a shot further down. :frown:

Try glue or something sticky on the end of a wire/coat hanger, but the front fairing will end up coming off.......and I bet you still can't find them, cause they'll see you coming and do one

  15. Im assuming they're not metalic then

  16. i feel your pain, they disappear, never to be seen again

Tip - Long thin nosed pliers :upyeah:

  17. Nah rubber with a non ferrous (brass?) threaded insert.

Just think Rich....you have all the fun of getting them back in, to look forward to yet.

See the tip re the tiny dab of superglue, just enough to hold them to the screen till you start the bolt in the thread. :upyeah:

  18. Found, Super glue and back on
