1199 Replacing The Heatshield Recommendations

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by d8mok, Dec 2, 2014.

  1. Im looking to replace the massive heatshield on my MY14 1199. Not wanting to spend loads on a expensive carbon jobby as you never get owt back when you sell them anyway( been there with the 848).

Has anyone got a older style heatshield they would sell at a decent price?

Or any recomendations where to buy a good quality matte carbon one ? Ill spend £100 ish if decent but not much more. None of this £250 lark.

    Thanks

  2. I was looking at exhaust covers, I didn't know if to go for the now changed matte carbon or the older gloss carbon ( Is this classed as old hat now ? )

Some seem to be more 'sleek' than others, don't know if they all fit the same on the 899 and 1199 or if there are differences. Some of the standard ones that I have seen look massive, go right down near the footrests.

Is it just the two bolts you can see on the top that holds them on ?

Found this one, don't know what it is like but looks ok,

  3. Yeh im watching that one on ebay now. The one i have is the huge one that goes down near the footrest. They are a nightmare to fit i believe. You have to lift the tank, and subframe i believe. Itll give me a nice xmas project to fit it when im bored.

  4. I'm sure I've heard of some of the non DP carbon ones discolouring or even melting if they are of poor quality, maybe something to bear in mind. I'm not sure what determines a good one from a bad one, although price usually reflects quality. Someone on here took the angle grinder to the big OEM cover on their bike and sliced a bit off the bottom, it made a huge improvement to the appearance of it and they didn't have the hassle of having to take it off.

  5. Looking at the covers it appears there are three bolts, can you not just loosen them and pull it out or is it the front bolt that is a pig to get at ?

  6. I considered taking a grinder to it, and finsihing it with a dremel. However i dont think im brave enought o do it wthout removing it.

  7. The 1 your looking at Guys is the same 1 I bought earlier this year before I put a full Termi system on.
    My opinions are ......
Yes they do discolour but not greatly.
They aren't that difficult to fit.
If u remove the 2 Torx bolts that secure the sub-frame to the engine lift the seat up slack or remove the tank bracket. 5 min job.
    It's easy to fit.

  16. They look so much nicer without that hulk of plastic .

On usa ebay you can buy good branded carbon bits so so cheap. Seems in uk we are being ripped of a bit. My aim is to get one sorted so i can fit it over xmas. Anyone got any carbon suppliers who are worth looking at? Id spend £120 maybe a bit more on one. Ideally satin finish

  17. I think I bought mine from carbon fever at the right money £110/120

  18. have you got a link mate? As i cant findit on google

  19. Sorry chap it was Moto-italia I got it from off eBay I think I did a deal with him over the phone & saved his eBay charges. I think his no is on his listing if you search it.
I've also bought stuff off "carbonfibrefever" he's a good lad too

  20. Carbonfever is £125 for one. Which is good. But wont have stock until nearer xmas.

motoitalia is RLA develepments i think. I had a carbon mudguard from them for my D675 and it was a awful fit .He wouldnt give me my money back so had to make it fit. So im reluctant to buy from him again.
