999 Resealing Cf Tank

  1. I'm going to attempt to re-seal my porous Carbon Fibre petrol tank, after doing a bit of research i've decided to use Caswell GTS. The existing sealant is flaking away and the tank is weeping around the fuel pump aperture, i'm told its caused by Ethanol in the petrol...anyway, has anyone had experience of using Caswell on CF or fibreglass, or any other sealant for that matter, i'm not sure whether to try and remove whats left of the existing sealer or just leave it and pour in the new stuff, i'm going to wrap the tank in clingfilm to protect the paintwork.
Any useful tips for not making a hash of it would be most welcome....ta.

  2. I sealed the inside of my CF tank last week with the Caswell mixture, and I have to say it seems to have done the job, what I thought was a leak past the O ring turned out to be where the alloy insert is bonded to the Cf, it was weeping through the join!...but its pretty messy if you get it on something you don't want it to be on, like a good pair of trainers!...it doesn't come off.

And things have to be the correct temperature too, i wouldn't want to do it in the winter, it was pretty gloopy even though the temp was around 72 degrees. Any cooler and it would have been difficult to make sure of full coverage.

    I recommend it.
