Rexxer re-map.

  1. Hi all, had a rexxer re-map done at my local Ducati dealer Hyside yesterday, I haven't really had much of a chance to test her out yet coz the weather was miserable yesterday but just the short ride home was a pleasure! 2nd gear clutch out on idle was smooth and I purposely rode in the rev range that gives the surging we all have experienced which was remarkably different, less popping on overrun as well (shame!) I have a 2010 mts touring with the full Termi system, I also had fatducs fitted and the fuelling wasn't too bad but wasn't the best.

Right so here's the deal, the DP ECU can't be remapped by the rexxer unit, so I'm told, so I gave them my standard ECU, the original factory fuel map is then saved so it can be put back as was, then the rexxer maps are loaded. Whole process took a couple of hours. The cost was £199. I test rode the new 13 plate multi a couple of weeks earlier and whilst I haven't fully tested my new fuelling I think it is at least as good if not better!

I understand that this isn't a custom map like the one that Chris does at CJS but I can't justify spending that kind of money.

i will be completing a full testing procedure today and will let you guys know my feelings ASAP.

  2. Where abouts have you had it done ( area ). I've got exactly same set up as you (11 plate ) been told to open the air bypass screws.
    Thanks.

  3. Hi Bradders, I had the remap done at Hyside Ducati in Collier Row near Romford in Essex, nothing has been mentioned to me about air bypass screw adjustment at all, just get on and ride!

  4. Ok just got back from a long test ride around 45 miles, wow this thing is so smooth, I normally stick to touring mode most of the time simply because the on/off throttle fuelling is very harsh in sport mode, well not any more I have used sport mode most of the time today when I wasn't flicking in and out modes for testing!

I can cruise in traffic or when filtering in 2nd or 3rd clutch fully out and at tickover with no problems at all! Just the merest shunting in second, on/off throttle fuelling is very good! Remembering that we are talking about a big V-twin here there are always throttle reactions that are consistent with this kind of engine configuration but I tell you what I'm going to stick my neck on the line and say that I think this fuelling is every bit as good as a standard 2013 model bike the same as I rode 2 weeks ago. But what I will say is this, I have the full termigoni system and the air filter that accompanies it, people with a standard bike may not have a same result although i have looked at the Rexxer website and it says there are maps for the standard bike.

I am very impressed with the results, exhaust note is slightly different not as edgy as before, the excess popping on overrun is not as noticeable but it is still there, not as much black sooty deposits in the exhaust I did clean it before I left. I popped into Hyside to give them some feedback and I spoke to the technician that did the remap, he said that he thinks there may be a way to install the maps without having the bike present so a mail order service may be possible but this is no certainty.

This is how the bike should have been from day one! But I do understand the emission constrains that cause poor fuelling. I will update on any differences in the fuel economy is over a longer period, I am off to the TT on Friday so will see if the touring range is altered as well.

  5. "...the DP ECU can't be remapped by the rexxer unit, so I'm told"
Seems unlikely as the ECU's are the same hardware ;-)

  6. Hi Andy, this is what I would have said, I asked specifically and the answer was the DP ECU is locked! Having said that as I have the Termi system it would make sense for me to keep the DP ECU as is so I could swap back if needed.

  7. Begs the question as to why Ducati would add 'security' to the reprogrammed ECU for the Termi systems and not the standard ECU?
Bit weird? Good to know there may be an issue....with Rexxer retunes at any rate. CJS Racing can reprogramme either ;-)

  8. That seems to make sense then if CJS can do either, maybe it was some kind of sales patter! But still a very welcome improvement.

  9. Yes I suspect it's a limitation of the Rexxer system......developed with a standard ECU and not able to 'recognise' the reprogrammed 'race' ECU maybe.
Yes, you got what you were after and the price was fair.

  10. Is the Rexxer remap available at all Ducati dealers?

Did you keeps your FatDucs on after having the remap or does that come off at the same time?

Love the price of the remap and it's making me wonder.....

Mine is on the standard exhaust - I guess the Rexxer remap is still ok with this?

    Cheers

    Steve

  11. Hi Steve, not sure if the rexxer maps are available at all dealer's, maybe a phone call to your local one is best to check.

Fatducs are off the bike now, I believe to cure the low speed fuelling issues the lambda sensors are switched off so the ECU then becomes an open loop system and relies only on the fuel map table and not on any adaptive values that the lambda sensor supplies. This is only how I understand the system anyone out there please put me straight if I have misunderstood!

If you google Rexxer and go to the Rexxer website there is a tab for maps, at the bottom of this page there is a link to a full list of maps and it says that there is a map for the standard bike as well as the full system.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

  12. Thanks Pete. Mine is in for a service in the next two weeks so I'll ask them about it.

  13. Pete, if ya fat ducs need a new home, let me know :) nick

  14. Hi nick, no worries buddy, I will decide what to do when I get back from the TT, but I am so happy with the remap am guessing they will be up for sale and you can have first dibs on them.

  15. I have found a problem with the Rexxer remap! I spending too much on fuel because I can't get off the thing it's so good!

  16. Thanks Pete, just pm me when you decide and will sort out

  17. Hi all, a quick update on the rexxer re-map and fuel economy figures. Ok I brimmed the tank and did 96 miles to my first fuel stop going to the TT(I was riding with sports bikes so that's the reason for the early fuel stop!) brimmed the tank again, it took 8.46 litres, this equates to 51.61mpg! That was fully loaded panniers and topbox and riding at speeds of 70-80mph apart from a spell at 50 on the M25. I think that is pretty good!

Whilst on the island blasting around the economy obviously dropped off. The bike was awesome across the mountain section, really planted at high speed and only got a little light at the front at around 130mph. She carried all my gear and some of my mates! In total comfort and still embarrassed a few sports bikes on the TT course! Now tell me how many bikes can do that!

Even my mate who is a sports bike fan said " I'm starting to see Ducati's in a different light"

Loads of multi's on the island so I would like to say hello to anyone I nodded my head to last week if you are on here!

I was the on the black 1200s full Termi and topbox.

  18. If you know the password to access the ecu you can access it. The rexxer can only flash the ecu not read it for back up. It also flashes this ecu in a different way to how the factory would flash it. From time to time ducati may change a password . Not reading it for backup is a big flaw. Imagine if you have a one off update inside your bike , flash over it and need it back. Its gone forever.I have read many of those ecu's and even know HW and software numbers may look the same , whats hiding inside the ecu's can be very different .
