Riding With Out Mirrors

im going for a 7k service at hyside tomorrow where they'll be replacing the mirrors on my 899 with those mirror blanking indicator things from design corse

rode for 4 years on a 675 without them , never had an issue as long as i was behaving myself

looks sooooo much better than those pointless wobbling bits of crappy plastic anyway

if i dont get on with them i might look into the rizoma bar end ones but wont be putting the OEM ones back on, ever

 

This is why I like the idea of the hypermotard mirrors so much...I hate mirrors but with hyper you can fold them away...on my rsv4 I have one small oberon bar end mirror and use the block off plates combined with the patch wiring to turn the driving side lights into indicators...

 

the 748/916.996/998 mirrors are pretty much like having no mirrors anyway. might try a set of bar end mirrors, but sure they will look fugly on a 998 (but much more useful than the stock items).

 

Hi Pete. Strange you should say that as I was thinking the other day the 998 mirrors seem to work better than my 848 mirrors ever did. Still not brilliant by any means...

 

Nothing beats the rsv4 mirrors for crapness - the only way you can see ANYTHING and I mean anything behind is to take your arm off of the bar and then look...totally useless...

never had the pleasure of an 848, and my prior biking to the 998 was on trail bikes and commuters, so they tend to have big, well positioned mirrors.

maybe I need to take a bit more time in getting them set right.

 

I’m with the Cookster on this one. There are just as many numbskulls behind you as there are in front and I want to know where they are and what they are doing!!!

 

One thing I will say with no mirrors is it certainly helps to get you into the habit of doing regular life saver checks (if you don't already).

 

You guys have bigger skills than me (or maybe just bigger balls), I was once given a loan bike from Ducati Manchester without mirrors & had some of my most stressful , arse twitchy commutes. Hated it.

 

Has anyone tried fitting a rear vision camera with a screen inside the fairing?

 

We had this conversation before on another thread....my hyper had one fitted and it was shit quality and also shit...so I pulled it all out the day after I got it...having said that others have said theyre great...

 

I've taken my bike out once since converting to track trim and I just felt too vulnerable on the road, so i've bought some bar end mirrors to go if I do ever take it out on the road.

 

is it just the police people are worried about?

i dont know what else you would WANT to see in your mirrors?

 

I like to see whats coming up behind me . I remember one time when i had my old R6 i was behind this car that had slowed down to turn into a side road, so pull up and stop behind it while its waiting for a gap, i check my mirrors and see this car take the bend at the bottom of this hill pretty fast and i remember thinking that they're getting a bit of a move on! So this car in front pulls into the side road, check my mirrors again before pulling off and this car that was tanking it was under heavy break squirrling right up behind me, thought shit and probably did the best race start i will ever do in my life, and pulled away. The car just nudged my back tyre as i pulled away, so was quite lucky otherwise i would have ended up on the bonnet most likely.

 

call me old fashioned careless whatever but if I spent as much time worrying about the inordinate amount of c*nts on the road behind me as I do in front of me, I think my head would fall off

as a general rule, anything that’s behind me that going faster than me I can usually hear cos its got 2 wheels as opposed to four and I will pull to one side accordingly

if its got 4 wheels, they can go f8ck themselves ;p
