Hello everyone! My girlfriend just got her 696 Monster delivered, we are both newbies. I tried to make it roll in first gear without gas, but the bike starts rolling and then I stall it right at the end of clutch lever travel. Is it me or is this bike impossible to roll in first without giving gas?
My experience of v-twins is that they don't trundle along smoothly on a closed throttle. I'm no expert but my answer would be, "They all do that, sir". Someone will be along to correct me and give you a better answer very soon.
If your bike, car, bus, van, truck, whatever, won't pull away on tickover, then you need to give it more gas. Simple. My 800 Monster and 900ss certainly wouldn't be able to do it. My big diesel mercedes van certainly will. Stop mucking about and rev it. Oh, and welcome to the site.
