Route Napoleon

  1. Article on the BBC website about Route Napoleon. Some really good sections of road, just be aware that it does get a Police presence. I was lucky to do the road in 2008 on an R1. Less traffic and speed 'safety' then. Might be worth incorporating a section of the road if on tour in the area.

Also got the Gorge de Verdon and the D955 (Lac de Castillon) nearby.

  2. It used to be a very popular destination for us Brits but the last time for me was 2013 and 2014 and there were very few brits there by that point.

  3. The part that I've ridden, more than once, from Nice to just beyond Castellane, where I turned off to the West at Malijai for Mt Ventoux, was nice. Quite wide and sweeping in the main with not a lot of traffic, interesting riding in parts. Though constantly on the lookout for speed traps as it had a reputation for that even then.

Castellane, busy with bikers at the weekend when I visited, and the Gorge du Verdon are lovely and will be there this summer on the outward leg of my long awaited Corsica trip.

  4. The south side is more interesting, a nice village on the road up from the lake, cafe or two from memory..

  5. D955, had some fun on that one, though again, more traffic than there used to be Screenshot 2022-01-21 at 20.41.59.png
